Well, since you asked, Mandy The #1 slot should have deeitinfly gone to the tomato aliens landing. It's unique, entertaining, imaginative, well shot, obviously took more time than some guy kissing a tomato or some couple and their dog holding a tomato (wow how did they ever come up with that?), and, yes, I'll admit it sexy. My theory as to why it didn't even place(?!) is that Earthfare was/is afraid of having any image that could remotely smack of violence or negativity associated with their company even if it's just little plastic Army men and little tomato aliens. The rationale goes something like this: Hmmmm Guys with guns. And creatures invading the planet. That's too scary for the average, simple-minded American consumer to handle. Our marketing research clearly shows that many people these days are fearful of military figures and alien invasion. It could negatively affect our sales, if only in a subliminal way. And what with the economy in tailspin we can't risk it. So, yeah, lets go with the boring crap. It's roughly the same logic that's responsible for American Idol, idiotic sitcoms, lame commercials, and most everything else that makes us sad and lonesome (like Hank Williams but at least good ol' Hank had some SOUL, baby).And might I add: La, la, la, la, laaaaaaaa Und: Bbbbbbbbbbb And, lastly (but, Heaven knows, not leastly): Que sera, sera, darlin'.
